It works if I check out the 2.0 release svn branch. 

dunecontrol also works on the extracted tarball, if I copy stamp-vc from the svn to the extracted tarball. make still doesn't work, though. 

This is a test for the dune-common-2.0 tarball. So it exactly uses that configure.ac, where DUNE_AC_INIT is called.
